Homework for October 21

In “How Colleges are Failing Liberal Arts Majors” by Kenneth Kolson and Alexis Zhang, it is said that many liberal art schools are actually failing . “Out of the 1,000 schools reviewed, 34% earned a “D” or an “F.”” Schools are failing at providing an education that includes all the necessary skills that make liberal arts schools so popular. “Introductory survey courses have disappeared in favor of boutique electives… . Once the bedrock of the liberal arts degree, general education has become an afterthought” (Kolson and Zhang). Ungar second misconception mentioned in his article is “College graduates are finding it harder to get good jobs with liberal-arts degrees.” If what Kolson and Zhang say is true and that schools are literally failing, then it would make sense why they are struggling. If students are not actually learning the necessary skills and are taking fun, easy classes just for the “A,” then they would not have any skills they could use, or try to improve, in their work environment.
