Poem Quick Write 11/03:
Wake up, ride, go to class, homework, laundry, and clean
That’s my schedule
Repeating itself every day but maybe in a different way
Soon we will have a month off
But that will be full of working, working, and working.
I can’t wait to graduate.
I will miss my professors,
And my peers,
And my classes
But having my own classroom, with 10 or so kids
Will be so worth the boring schedule
Being able to shape young minds,
Guide them through tough problems inside and outside of the classroom
Making them excited to learn
Showing them that school doesn’t always have to be about content
It can be exciting or fun
Providing safe spaces,
or just being a safe person for them to talk to
Hoping to push students to their best
Hoping to earn their trust
Hoping to earn their respect
Hoping they want to share interesting facts and ask questions
Hoping they wake up every day excited
Hoping they don’t dread going to school
Hoping not to add stress to their lives
Hoping not to put them down
Hoping not to make them feel like a failure
What am I saying
That won’t happen
Right?
There are so many stressors when teaching
There are so many outside factors that affect a classroom
But just going every day with a smile
And something fun to provide to the class
That teaches them something
Seeing their smiling faces
Seeing their accomplishments
Will be so worth all the stress
