Standard 5
The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.
Artifact 1
The artifact I chose for standard 5 is a mini lesson on the three “there, their, they’re”‘s. I met with a student a week before and I got a sample of their writing from previous assignments. Based off of what was shown I picked a quick – 5 minute – topic I could teach a mini lesson on to this student. I think this artifact supports standard 5 because it shows that the teacher plans good lessons based off of areas that they need to work on. The lessons are important and useful. The lesson includes problem solving and requires some critical thinking. Having a basic lesson that can be adapted based off of a learner’s needs/type is useful. I think this lesson would be really simple to adapt or change if it doesn’t meet the needs of everyone. This will be helpful for me when I become a teacher because I will have a little practice with identifying areas that students will need more help in and creating effective lesson plans.
