“This course introduces students to writing as a conscious and developmental activity. Students learn to read, think, and write in response to a variety of texts, to integrate their ideas with those of others, and to treat writing as a recursive process. Through this work with texts, students are exposed to a range of reading and writing techniques they can employ in other courses. Students work individually and collaboratively, participate in peer review, and learn to take more responsibility for their writing development. Placement into this course is determined by multiple measures, including high school achievement and SAT scores”(UNE Handbook).

In this class we read many different articles. We read about liberal arts, critical thinking, majors, meta genres and more. Depending on what the topic for that assignment was we would write an essay on the readings; the first one was 1200 words, the second was 1600, and the last one was 1500. Along with these essays we had to do many home works on the readings and our ideas, which we posted to our ePortfolio which is like our online blog. We also had to make podcasts, which were not that hard, I just do not like listening to myself speak. We did a lot of group work, which was good because you got to listen to other people’s ideas and find out things that you might have missed in the reading. This class helped me get into the “college feel” and the last project pointed me toward my major.
