MCCS: Standard 2: The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.

CEC: Standard 5: Beginning special education professionals select, adapt, and use a repertoire of evidence-based instructional strategies to advance learning of individuals with exceptionalities.

For these standards I chose my social story. The social story assignment was a story we had to make based off of a ‘students’ goal. They have to use a small sentence to get something they want and in the story we had to explain situations that they could use the sentence in. I think the social story is a good example of standard 2 because it gives a good understanding of ‘individual differences.’ Having a good understanding of a students background will help me create an inclusive classroom for all of my students. I think this connects to standard 5 because having an understanding of a students background will help me choose instructional strategies that will benefit students learnings with disabilities.

This will help me when I get my first teaching job because it will help me get to know my students and select good instructional strategies to help them learn. I can help them in specific situations with the sentence or small phrase they have to say. I can help encourage them to say it. It is important to encourage students to reach their goals in an educational setting and outside of one. Knowing their goals, situations they can use them in and finding more situations they can use them in will be important when encouraging them to reach their goals. I can use my background knowledge on creating and finding situations for them to try to reach their goals in my future classroom to help these students. This is also important to know to use for differentiation because not every student has the same goals and paths to reach their goals so constantly being aware of each students goals and ways they can use them while learning is important when teaching.
