EDU 110:
(also linked above and pasted below)
In my future as an educator I plan on using technology, depending on the grade, a good amount. A lot of lessons and resources after the pandemic have been moved online and most of them have been beneficial. For younger students, w4e all know they love to use technology whenever they get the chance, so unless I am doing my math groups where one of the stations is math games, they will be allowed to earn the use of the computer for a go noodle or some sort of interesting video that they can watch and enjoy as a class. I also will let them use it a little bit for researching projects but they have to be old enough and prove to me that they can be responsible. As they start to get a little older I will include units on positive and negative uses for technology in school and outside of school. I think a lot of kids now just get handed an iPad or iPhone as a way to keep them busy and no one really takes the time to say “hey this is bad” or “hey you need to watch how long you are using it” and I want to be able to give examples for the students. Especially as they get older they just rely too much on computers and cell phones for everything, myself included, and I want them to have somewhat of an idea of what positive things they can do on their phones besides just watch videos. I also do a lesson about cyberbullying and how to not do it and what they can do when they see it, because if we show them young they will most likely be able to make a change or help someone when they get older. As the grades get older I will rely on technology more. I really like the bitmoji classrooms so I probably will make several of them for each class and alter the links depending on what projects we do. They will be allowed to use them for projects, research, presentations,etc.. I do not want everything to be online but I do think that in our society we just rely very heavily on technology. I will only use technology in good ways, or for ways to store all the information and links students will need. I also will use it as ways to meet with students for extra help via Zoom and other platforms that the recent pandemic has opened our eyes too.
2 Artifacts:
The first attached artifact is a PSA that I made for EDU 110 and it is about becoming a good digital citizen.
This artifact reflects standard 11 because it teaches students how to be good digital citizens. Standard 11 says “provides positive models” and my PSA does provide a good model of what to do and what not to do online. It is mostly aimed at social media. Standard 11 also says “engage students” and I think my video is short and kind of fast enough passed enough to keep students engaged. Long videos cause for lots of students to space out and not pay attention. It also reflects standard 11 because it is a video – that I used technology to make – and it is about technology and how to act online.
The second artifact linked above is my “online learning module” which I made a Bitmoji classroom.
I think the Bitmoji classroom reflects standard 11 because it is an interesting and fun looking website that provides resources for students to guide them through a project I made for my EDU 242 class. Standard 11 says “provide positive models” and I think this is a positive resource/model for students to use because it’s not just any old boring google document with a list of resources. I also put myself into a bee costume which I think will really entertain my students. Standard 11 also says “improve learning” and I think all of the links attached to my Bitmoji classroom will really improve their learning because all of them are websites I specifically chose for this educational project I made. The other reason I think it is a good example was because I provided a podcast attached to the classroom for those students who are feeling overwhelmed and just need a break. I think thats beneficial because it provides ways for the students to use technology in a positive way to take a break from educational purposes.
