Learning Outcome 4: Peer Review

Learning Outcome 4: Peer Review

Above is one of the first essays I edited and I took the authors name off of it.

When I first went to peer review I expected to read over someone’s essay and correct for grammar and spelling, things that are awkward, stuff like that. Instead I had to mark their claims, ideas, and evidence. I had to say whether I thought it was good or bad or if they needed to move something, if they should include it, etc.. An end comment was also required and you had to say what you thought their opinion was and what they were trying to say in their paper. I thought the process of peer review was tough but it really ended up being helpful.I thought it was very difficult at first and my comments are not that good. As I got to read more papers throughout the semester I feel like I got better at it. My comments got more descriptions and they were more common and they were less me saying what their claims were to more of me giving my ideas saying ‘I agree, I disagree, this does not go with what you are saying, you need better evidence.’ In the example above you can see examples of my comments, my professors and someone else’s comments in my group. It really shows how many comments we offered and they were not all just “fix this, change that” we said where we saw this student’s ideas, claims and where the evidence was good.
