Homework for November 4

Boyer’s idea of an enriched major is involved in many different majors. In the elementary education major it is seen especially in the history behind the major. Boyer asks “What is the history (…) of the field to be examined? What are the social and economic implications to be understood?” Education majors graduate to become teachers and they influence – social implications- so many children who will end up becoming the ‘new’ history of the major. The education major also requires you to take many other classes so students are opened up to other issues as well so they can have an even bigger influence on children.

The education major fits in all of the metagrenres. You can use any of the four in your teaching or focuses; math, art, history, and science. No matter what age/concentration you plan on teaching you can use all of them to your future students, even if it is as simple as why the sky is blue.

Questions:

  1. Why is this major important?
  2. Do you recommend learning about special ED and if so why is it so important?
  3. What is the most difficult requirement for this major?
  4. What are good minors for education majors?
  5. What is the most important thing to know about being a teacher?
  6. What was your most important/biggest teaching moment/best connection you had with a student? (If you can share)
