- Carter says that the main issue for WID professionals is the gap between writing inside and outside of the disciplines. Carter says that teachers don’t like to include writing in their classroom because it limits what they can teach. “Writing is considered outside the disciplines, the province of English teachers, and thus unable to play an important role in the disciplines.” The ability to write/teach writing in the classroom needs to be connected to the ability to write outside the classroom.
- Carter’s concept of the genre is that “it is a response to a particular learning situation marked by a particular way of knowing and doing.” It is the close connection of two disciplines. You combine two categories “genres” together to create a discipline.
- Metagenres are a “higher category, a genre of genres.” It has a more specific use than the other, smaller genres.
